Phase 1 (2008 to 2012)
Billionaire Tony Stark, known as a playboy and arms dealer, has a life-altering experience in the desert and creates a heroic suit. He battles against other tech industry figures and meets Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff, and her SHIELD boss Nick Fury. A brilliant scientist, Bruce Banner, has a life-changing experience in the lab and transforms into a confused and angry green giant.
Thor, an alien god, is banished to Earth and goes through a life-changing experience that teaches him about sacrifice before defeating frost giants. Skinny Steve Rogers receives a life-changing serum that transforms him into a strong hero in blue tights, and he fights Nazis (now known as Hydra) during the 1940s. He is then frozen for 70 years and wakes up in 2011.
They all come together under the leadership of Nick Fury, along with a lesser-known archery guy named Hawkeye, to defeat Thor’s mischievous half-brother, Loki, and his alien army. The attack takes place in New York. There are also some unforgettable moments that you may have overlooked.

Phase 2 (2013 to 2015)
Tony Stark, who went through a traumatic experience, tries to step away from all the action. However, he is pulled back in by another person from the tech industry and their puppet villain, an actor named Trevor who was once famous in Croydon. Thor encounters some difficulties involving a mysterious object called the red McGuffin and a group of Dark Elves. Captain America finds himself in a tough situation when his old friend Bucky reappears as a brainwashed super soldier, causing him to go against his corrupt government.
The Guardians of the Galaxy, a group of alien troublemakers, face challenges involving a purple McGuffin and the powerful alien warlord, Thanos. Additionally, we meet Scott Lang, a small-time criminal who inherits shrinking technology and becomes Ant-Man. However, it’s important to note that neither the Guardians nor Ant-Man are directly connected to the Avengers. The Avengers assemble once again to defeat Ultron, a consciousness within the cyber realm, inadvertently causing destruction to the country of Sokovia in the process.

Phase 3 (2016 to 2019)
We meet Doctor Strange. He’s a doctor who can perform magic, and his real name is actually Doctor Strange. (If he were British, like the actor who plays him, he would be Mr. Strange, FRCS.) Captain America, his friend Falcon who can fly, Bucky, Ant-Man, and Black Widow join forces against Tony Stark, his buddy War Machine, his former cyber-butler Jarvis (now a demigod called Vision), Stark’s young student Spider-Man, and his new friend Black Panther from Africa. They argue about whether superheroes should answer to governments worldwide or not.
This might seem like Avengers 3 because of its scale and the large cast, but it’s not. Some of Cap’s team members are either captured or go into hiding, while Thor and Hulk are busy fighting Thor’s sister, the goddess of death. They win, but then face trouble with Thanos (that guy again!) in the end. The Guardians of the Galaxy have their own adventures in space, separate from everything else, until they meet Thor. Everyone we mentioned earlier, except Thanos, teams up to fight against him. Thanos wants to gather powerful objects to destroy half of all life in the universe for selfish reasons.
Captain Marvel crash-lands on Earth in the 1990s, meets Nick Fury, and gives him a pager “for emergencies only.” She stops an invasion by the Kree, an alien species, and becomes friends with the Skrulls, another alien group. The remaining Avengers come together five years after the Snap (an event that wiped out half of all life) to travel through time and undo the Snap, bringing everyone back. They succeed, but a version of Thanos from 2014 causes trouble. Tony Stark sacrifices himself to defeat Thanos for good, and Black Widow dies too. Captain America becomes very old.
Eight months later, Peter Parker is trying to cope with the death of his mentor and enjoy a vacation in Europe. However, Fury interrupts his plans and pairs him up with Mysterio to defeat the Elementals, who are causing problems. The only issue is that Mysterio is the mastermind behind it all. Spidey wins, but his secret identity is exposed to the world. Oh no!

Phase 4 (2021 to 2022)
Phase 4 mainly focused on two things: adding many new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and introducing the idea of the multiverse. Some notable new characters are Yelena Boleva from Black Widow, Shang-Chi from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, all the Eternals including Harry Styles’s Eros, Moon Knight, and America Chavez from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
America Chavez is especially important because she has the ability to travel through different dimensions. Additionally, Loki introduced He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, who will likely be the main villain in Avengers 5. Regarding the multiverse, Peter Parker temporarily disrupted it in Spider-Man: No Way Home to make people forget he is Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange explored the multiverse to rescue America from an angry Scarlet Witch, whose fate is uncertain.
As for other important details, it’s currently unclear since Phase Four projects, whether movies or TV shows, were mostly independent with minimal crossovers. Post-credit scenes were mostly used to introduce new characters, like Eros in Eternals. Once Phase Five reveals more about the MCU’s direction, we might discover that Phase Four had important details beyond introducing new characters. If that happens, we’ll update this information.

Phase 5 (2023 to 2024)
Phase Five is still in the early stages, and only two movies have been released so far. Out of those two, only Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania has a significant impact on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Quantumania’s main purpose was to introduce Kang the Conqueror, specifically this version of the character. We can assume that we’ll see more of Kang and different versions of him throughout Phase Five, but it’s uncertain if the allegations against Jonathan Majors will affect the current plans.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 didn’t focus much on the wider MCU. It mainly wrapped up the Guardians’ story, although it did introduce a new version of the team that might come back in the future. Apart from these two movies, the details of the rest of Phase Five are being kept secret, and we don’t know what to expect yet. So, we’ll have to wait and see for more information.

Phase 6 (2024 to 2026)
During Comic-Con 2022, Kevin Feige announced three amazing movies for Phase Six. However, these three movies won’t be the only ones in Phase Six because there are still many release dates to be filled. We do know that one of the movies will be Deadpool 3, which fans have been eagerly waiting for. It will bring back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The other two movies will be Avengers movies and will serve as the finale to The Multiverse Saga.
Since Secret Wars is coming, it’s highly likely that one of the unknown movies will be the long-awaited X-Men movie. In the comic version of the storyline, the X-Men play a significant role. As for the rest of the movies, we can only guess at this point.
