Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania to Premiere on Disney+
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be released on Disney+. This is good news because Disney+ has made it easy for people to watch movies at home. Although some movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have not been released on Disney+ yet. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania did not do as well as expected in movie theaters, but it will soon be available for people to buy on digital and physical formats. This is also important because Ant-Man 3 already made history by teasing a new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ant-Man 3 to be released on Disney+
Marvel Studios has confirmed that Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be available to watch on Disney+ from May 17. This news comes after the announcement that the movie would be available for digital purchase from April 18, followed by a release on Blu-ray and 4K on May 16.
Despite this, the advertising campaign for the home release did not mention when Ant-Man 3 would be coming to Disney+.a Marvel Studios even went as far as to promote the shrinking threequel on Twitter as “ONLY on digital” on April 18. This is the first time since the launch of Disney+ in 2019 that a Marvel Studios movie has been promoted with such “ONLY on digital” wording that does not mention the streaming service. As a result, some people feared that it would be a long time before Ant-Man 3 would be available on Disney+.
Fans of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania can now relax, as the movie will be available to watch on Disney+ soon after its physical release. Marvel Studios also released a new poster for the movie to celebrate the announcement.
However, this release strategy is different from what Disney has done in the past. In the past year, Disney has released Marvel Studios movies on both digital and streaming platforms on the same day. But now, Disney seems to be changing its streaming release strategy. Avatar: The Way of Water also recently followed a similar principle by delaying its Disney+ release until after the digital and Blu-ray releases. Although Avatar 2 was released digitally on March 28, there has been no announcement about its Blu-ray or Disney+ release dates yet.

Disney Changes Strategy for Home Release of Movies
In recent times, Disney has not included the Disney+ release date for two of its big movies in their initial marketing. This is a change from the past, as almost all Disney movies since the launch of the streaming service have had Disney+ at the center of their home release announcements and marketing.
While Avatar 2 and Black Panther 2 were released later on Disney+ compared to their theatrical release, Ant-Man 3 has a standard 60-day gap between its theatrical and streaming release. This suggests that Disney’s goal isn’t to extend its theatrical runs and earn more money from the box office.
This change in strategy may be a decision from newly-returned Disney CEO Bob Iger, who took over from his predecessor Bob Chapek in November. Chapek’s content strategy placed great importance on Disney+, to the extent that most animated movies were released directly on the streaming platform instead of in theaters.
Releasing movies for digital purchase and streaming on Disney+ on the same day may have affected Disney’s sales of movies on a pay-per-view basis. As Iger aims to correct any damage done by Chapek, it seems part of his strategy is to delay the streaming release of movies.
It’s likely that Disney will employ a similar strategy for the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as there is a lot of excitement around the movie’s box office potential. However, in the case of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, viewers won’t have to wait long, as it will be available on Disney+ on May 17.
